Our Story

Our restaurant experience started differently than most. My daughter Arabia had eczema when she was a toddler.  We learned it was due to the food we were eating and changed our diet to eat mainly organic. We lived in Chicago, where there were many health food stores and restaurants and she was thriving. As a result of military service, we soon moved to Killeen, Texas (Fort Hood) where organic food and restaurants were scarce. Being an entrepreneur at heart I saw the need and decided to create a business to not only help my daughter but the over 30 million people in the US – including almost 10 million children under 18 -- who suffer from this skin affliction.  In addition, my research indicated that eczema is more prevalent in African Americans.  So I knew I had to act!

It took several years for this venture to come to fruition. In 2013, we opened So Natural Organic Restaurant and Market. We were the first full-service organic restaurant in our area that offered vegan, gluten-free, keto, and paleo options. We offered these items because we wanted everyone that walked into our restaurant to feel welcome no matter what their food preferences were. As a registered nurse, I also know the majority of the diseases we have as a society are reversible due to diet. I wanted to be a solution to the problem many of us face daily by utilizing my knowledge as a nurse of the disease process and providing delicious but healthy food. We are veteran-owned and family-run. In 2016, we were featured on Food Networks Restaurant Impossible. It was an amazing experience. After five years of running the business, we decided to close the restaurant portion of the business and focus on our revised model -- catering, meal prep, cooking classes, juice detox, and event venue rental (it is beautiful, Restaurant Impossible did a great job!).

We are known for our macaroni and cheese,  black bean veggie burgers, jerk chicken, and ginger lemonade. We have been voted the best and one of the best in many categories through the Killeen Daily Herald over the years. We received KWTX Clean Plate Award twice. This award is awarded to restaurants that do exceptionally well on the health inspections. We were featured again on Food Networks Restaurant Impossible in February 2020. Chef Robert Irvine wanted to catch up with us and learn what we were up to. Once he found out that we were teaching Killeen ISD special needs students employability skills - he was proud.

In addition to our noted accomplishments, we also won the IVMB's Business Plan competition at the National Veterans EDGE Conference in 2018 where we won $10,000.
